About us

Matheson Ormsby Prentice is Ireland's largest law firm. We advise multinational companies and financial institutions doing business in and through Ireland. We also represent some of Ireland's largest private, public and State owned companies and institutions.

Surround Yourself With The Best

The success of Matheson Ormsby Prentice has been built on the implementation of a clear client-focused strategy and a commitment to excellence.  Above all, however, we achieve results through our investment in talented people. We aim to recruit individuals who will play an important role in the future success of the firm.

We are renowned for our friendly, flexible and supportive working environment, where creative thinking, entrepreneurial initiative, high quality and excellence are rewarded. The team spirit is evident at all levels of the firm, as is the shared commitment to deliver only the highest quality advice and service to our clients.

Throughout the recruitment process we are interested in getting to know you as a person and identifying if you have the right qualities to join our highly successful Trainee Solicitor Programme.  We look for people with a mix of high academic achievements and personal achievements.  We want to select candidates who best fit with the firm’s values and culture and who display a clear level of understanding of what it requires to work in a commercial law firm.

Are you trying to decide if a career in law is for you?

One way to find out is to participate in the summer internship programme at Matheson Ormsby Prentice. You will get to experience what working in a law firm is really like. You will be working alongside our talented legal and tax professionals and trainee lawyers on real transactions and projects, for some of our leading international and financial institution clients.

The purpose of our summer internship programme is to give you a real insight into our work, our people and our culture, so that you can decide if Matheson Ormsby Prentice is right for you. You will spend four weeks working as part of the team in one of our main departments - Corporate and Commercial, Banking and Financial Services, Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Commercial Property and Tax. From day one, you will be treated just like a trainee. The work will be challenging and interesting and you will also get to enjoy our active social life.

Securing a place on the Matheson Ormsby Prentice Summer Internship Programme
is an extremely competitive process, as the programme
forms an integral part of our trainee lawyer recruitment process.

We look for people with a mix of high academic achievements and personal achievements.  We aim to select candidates who fit best with the firm’s values and
culture and who display a clear level of understanding of what is required to
work in a commercial law firm.

Being a summer intern in Matheson Ormsby Prentice means working with different people in different situations so we look for evidence of teamwork and positions of responsibility as well as how you motivate yourself and display the right attitude,
drive and ambition.

Application Form

Completing the application form is the most important part of the process. Creating an application  that stands out from the rest and allows your personality to shine through is a real challenge. We are looking for the best Interns with determination and enthusiasm and with careful preparation you can make sure your application form shows us that's you!

Take your time completing your application form – it can take a couple of hours to get it right but the effort will be worth it if you secure an interview. The questions asked by different firms may look similar but it is unlikely you will be able to use exactly the same answer each time. Get someone you trust to review your application form before you submit it and ensure your form is free from spelling and grammatical errors – attention to detail is an important skill for a lawyer to have.

The application form for the Summer Intern Programme will be available to complete on
Thursday 2 February 2012.

Interview Process

The first stage of the process will be a telephone interview with a member of our Human Resources team.  Successful shortlisted candidates will then be invited to our offices to be interviewed by two partners. The interview process is graduate-friendly. You will be put at ease and you will find the experience informative, beneficial and above all, enjoyable.  We recognise that choosing your career is an important decision. Therefore, we endeavour to ensure that our interviews are a two-way process.  It is important that you get to know us at Matheson Ormsby Prentice as much as we get to know you.  Be positive, project a good attitude and highlight the contribution you can make to the firm.

Induction

Before you commence your placement, you will spend some time just settling in and getting to know other interns. This will give you a great introduction to the firm, its structure, main practice areas and activities, and will allow you to familiarise yourself with our systems and procedures and generally get a feel for our culture.

Trainee Support

You will work closely with one of our trainees, so that you can experience what it is like to work as a trainee lawyer in Matheson Ormsby Prentice. Our trainees will show you around, introduce you to people, and offer support and encouragement when working on cases.

Quality of Work

During your internship, you will work with the lawyers and trainees in our practice areas on real transactions and projects. You will be treated just like a trainee and invited to attend and participate in team and client meetings. We repeatedly hear year on year from our summer interns that they are impressed by the quality of work they get involved in during their four week placement. The level of involvement in live cases will immediately make you feel that you are an integral part of your team.

Training and Assessment

During the four-week programme, you will receive comprehensive legal skills training covering research, delivering presentations and drafting together with seminars from various departments across the firm. To ensure you enhance these skills during the four weeks, you will be required to complete a written legal research assignment and presentation. At the end of the programme, an appraisal meeting will take place with you and your supervising partner to discuss your performance and experience during your internship.
