Trainee Chartered Accountant Graduate Programme 2012

Mazars has opportunities for graduates and postgraduates to train as chartered accountants and tax consultants in our Dublin and Galway offices.

Main Duties/Responsibilities 

We are looking for candidates to join our teams in Dublin and Galway. The start date is November 2012.

Trainees will be based in our Audit, Assurance, and Accountancy service areas, with opportunities to gain exposure to other service areas, offering future career progression opportunities.

Successful candidates will be put through a rigorous training and development programme as well as sitting professional exams throughout the course of their contract.

The beginning of your training contract will equip you with the technical skills and knowledge in order to become an excellent professional in your field. You will assist other trainees and seniors on audits and become familiar with a large spectrum of clients. As you progress you will gradually gain more responsibility for elements of each assignment and begin to play a more central role. In your final year you will be responsible for managing and taking a lead role when liaising with clients as well as supporting new trainees during their contract period.

The ideal candidate has

We are looking for high achievers with a 2.1 honours degree. We will accept graduate applications from a range of different backgrounds and are looking for smart, interesting, people who will enjoy working with us. While your academic background is of course relevant, what’s more important to us is how you apply yourself to your studies and to the pursuit of knowledge. You may have a background in engineering, business, law, science or economics- but what’s important is that you bring to the firm a willingness to learn and apply your skills in the best way possible. We can teach you the technical and business skills you need- but you also need energy and the right attitude to succeed.

Review

A panel of staff from across the firm reviews graduate applications. We receive a lot of applications so the more interesting information you provide the better.

Open evening

If your application is successful you will be asked to attend one of our graduate open evenings which will be held in the Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin 2, on Thursday 27th October and Thursday 3rd November 2011. Here you will have the opportunity to learn about our firm and to meet staff from trainee to partner level.

Interview and assessment

As part of the interview process you will be invited to spend half a day with us in our Dublin office. The process consists of a personal interview in which you will meet with a partner and manager to discuss your motivations for entering into a training contract. You will also sit a set of aptitude tests designed to assess your suitability for working in Mazars and will attend an informal lunch with trainees from across the firm.
Throughout the day, you will be meeting and talking with partners, managers and members of the HR team. So you can be sure that all your questions will be answered.

  • You will be assigned a mentor to facilitate your start with us. Your mentor will act as your main point of contact and later on ensure you are gaining adequate professional development. This is further enhanced through our review and development process.
  • Mazars also provides students with specific training towards examinations as we are committed to the on-going success of our staff members in achieving exam success. This targeted type of support has proved to be very effective in the past.
  • Finally, Mazars will train you to not only become chartered accountants and tax consultants but also to become business advisors. This is achievable at Mazars because of the wide experience you will receive. Indeed, our staff are not allocated to one service line or sector for the duration of the training contract but are given the opportunity to experience different sectors, industries and service offerings.

1. When can I apply for graduate recruitment?

Graduate recruitment will begin in September 2011.

2. What kind of training and employee development programs does Mazars offer new graduates?

Coupled with the on the job training there is also ongoing formal training throughout the year. These formal training sessions provide the opportunity for you to refresh the skills you have learned on the job and to learn new skills which you can apply in practical situations. As your career with us develops you will also learn key professional skills such as client management, professionalism, leadership and teamwork.

3. I graduated 5 years ago. Do I still qualify to apply under the graduate scheme?

You may apply, providing you have the relevant experience/academic background and a commitment to a career as an Accountant and Business Advisor

4. What degree programs / academic background does Mazars recruit from?

We accept graduates from every discipline. While a relevant degree (e.g. accounting, business, commerce) is advantageous we also accept graduates from other disciplines who can demonstrate a genuine interest in accounting and in business issues in general.

5. What about international mobility?

In Ireland we have offices in Dublin and Galway. We are also present in 61 countries worldwide and are very much part of the Mazars international network offering mobility opportunities to professional staff.
