According to the Central Statistics Offices' most recent studies, there are almost 100,000 people employed in the Agricultural, Horticultural and Forestry sectors, this represents some 5% of the Irish workforce.

In Irish Agricultural industries self employment is common, however there are many career opportunities in Agricultural-related services and businesses, such as:

  • Animal and Plant Research
  • Agribusiness Management and Sales
  • Commodity Broking
  • Agricultural Journalism
  • Agriscience Research
  • Parks, Recreation and Tourism
  • Wildlife
  • Lecturing

The employers in this industry will be looking to hire graduates with managerial potential. As well as this you should have good time management skills, the ability to work in a team and environmental awareness. Examples of some specific career types available to competent graduates are:

Horticultural

  • Amenity Horticulture e.g. Landscapers, Gardeners etc
