Despite the fluctuations in the construction industry, the demand for highly skilled graduates remains. Areas of the construction industry which rely heavily on graduates are:

If you thrive on variety and like meeting people, working in the property sector is a good choice for you - and you don't necessarily need a degree in property.

There is a range of roles and areas in which you can specialise, in a challenging and dynamic work environment. The opportunities for advancement are excellent for ambitious graduates, as is proven by the young profiles of senior management in many Irish property companies.

Travel opportunities are becoming increasingly available as many of the larger companies are affiliated with companies around the globe, with thousands of multinational employees. As well as this the property sector isn't all hard work as it is a highly sociable environment so there are plenty of opportunities for enjoying yourself, meeting friends and networking.

Areas of the property industry which employ high numbers of graduates are:

  • Agencies - management and negotiations of sales, lettings and acquisitions in the residential or commercial sectors
  • Valuations
  • Development land - giving advice to landlords, developers etc
  • Asset management and investment - managing investors' interests and advising on domestic and overseas property investment
  • Professional and consultancy services - rent reviews, lease renewals etc
  • Property management - managing rent collection, maintenance etc on behalf of the occupier, owner or landlord
  • Research - assessing the impact of political and economic trends on the property market
  • Planning - deciding upon  the validity of permission requests and formulating policy
  • Legal and financial services - providing consultancy to the property business
